Election Information

The Student Council is a representative structure for all degree seeking students at the American University of Armenia. The Student Council provides students with the opportunity to become involved in the affairs of the university, working in partnership with the university administration, staff and faculty. The Student Council should always work for the benefit of the university and its students.

The Student Council has the responsibility for working with the administration, faculty and staff in order to represent the student body, communicating and consulting with all of the students in the university, involving as many students as possible in the activities of the Council, planning and managing the Council’s program of activities for the academic year, managing and accounting to the Student Council and the respective advisor for the budget for the academic year 2017 – 2018.

There will be a separate Student Council for the undergraduate student body.

The position of Student Council advisor for the undergraduate Student Council is currently vacant.

The role of the Student Council Advisor is to promote the interests of the Student Council, assist and advise the Council and be the link between the Student Council and the administration, faculty and staff.

 

CAMPAIGN

The campaign for the UGRAD Student Council will be held from October 2 – October 11, 2017.

Interested students must fill out the Candidacy Form and return it to the Office of the Registrar by 17:00 on September 27, 2017.

Students must pick up two copies of the Confidential Evaluation Forms from the Center for Student Success (Room 203M) and have these completed by two current AUA Faculty/Staff members. The completed forms must be forwarded to Room 203M or e-mailed to [email protected] by 17:00 on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 by the evaluator.

All undergraduate candidates must be in good academic standing, maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to remain on the Student Council.

New students who do not have a GPA must make certain that they maintain good academic standing.

Only degree seeking students can run for Student Council.

List of official candidates will be posted on September 29-30, 2017 at 17:00.

 

Speeches and / or Informational Sessions

Manoogian Hall in the PAB Building is reserved for candidate speeches. You should contact Center for Student Success (Room 203M) to reserve a specified time in the time periods (see the table below). Please use this time to make certain that your fellow students know your position. A candidate’s speech should not exceed 5 minutes in length and is meant to help voters understand the candidates’ ideas or plans for what they hope to accomplish during the academic year.

Candidates may participate in this year’s election debate in the Large Auditorium in the Main Building on October 6.

All official candidates are free to use this room during the following times to make speeches and or answer questions from the student body or the administration, faculty or staff.

These times will be posted both on our website and around the university to make certain students participate.

*If a candidate needs to use a computer for a presentation, all requests must be submitted to [email protected] at least 48 hours in advance.

 

Printed Informational Material for Official Candidates

All informational material for Official Candidates must be approved by Mariam Mikhaylova (Center for Student Success, Room 203M) prior to posting.

Standing bulletin boards will be available for official candidates to post their campaign information.

 UGRAD CAMPAIGN

Undergraduate students from all three degree programs are eligible to run for the Student Council. The Student Council will be comprised of twelve undergraduate students.

 

VOTING

Voting will take place on October 12 and 13 from 10:00 – 18:00. Voting will be electronic and you must use your AUA email address to vote. The voting link will be sent to all UGRAD students who have an AUA email address.

UGRAD – All undergraduate students are allowed to vote once for twelve candidates

 

If there are any voting discrepancies, associated students will be disqualified.

The winners of the election will be notified on Friday, October 13, 2017.

The winners will be officially announced on Monday, October 16, 2017.
